Turkish, Syrian Interior Ministers Discuss Security Cooperation

Ankara: Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya met in Ankara on Monday with his Syrian counterpart Anas Khattab and discussed cooperation opportunities in the security field. Both ministers addressed the situation of Syrians residing in Turkiye, with Khattab underscoring the need for continued cooperation to secure their safe return.

According to Qatar News Agency, official data released by Turkiye's Directorate General of Migration Management shows that the number of Syrians under temporary protection in Turkiye has declined by 25.8 percent over five years, reaching its lowest level since 2020.

The meeting between the two ministers highlights ongoing efforts to address the complexities of security and migration issues affecting both countries. The discussions are part of broader regional efforts to stabilize and ensure the safety of displaced populations, as well as to manage cross-border security concerns effectively.
