Turkish President: Presidential Elections to Be Held in 2028 as Scheduled

Doha: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed that the country's presidential elections will be held in 2028 as scheduled and without any changes.

According to Qatar News Agency, Erdogan made this announcement during a speech before the Justice and Development Party parliamentary bloc, emphasizing that elections have always been respected by both the public and politicians in Turkiye.

In response to the calls for early elections voiced by the opposition Republican People's Party leader Ozgur Ozel, the Turkish President stated that since the constitution and the election law have not been changed, the presidential and parliamentary elections will proceed in 2028, while local elections are set for 2029.

Erdogan also pointed out that the Turkish electorate granted him a five-year mandate in the most recent elections, during which he garnered 52.18 percent of the vote. He reiterated his commitment to completing his presidential term until its conclusion.
