Doha: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, discussed bilateral relations and regional and global issues in a phone call on Sunday. During the call, President Erdogan noted that a historic turning point had been reached to end the war between Ukraine and Russia, expressing Turkiye's readiness to contribute to efforts to ensure a ceasefire and lasting peace, including by hosting negotiations between the two sides.
According to Qatar News Agency, on Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed resuming direct talks with Ukraine without preconditions next Thursday in Istanbul.
