Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty on Wednesday in Ankara to talk about efforts to reinforce the ceasefire in Gaza and the ongoing discussions about the suggested international stabilization force for the area. During a joint press conference, Fidan emphasized that Gaza is a vital part of Palestine and should be regarded accordingly. He additionally mentioned that during his recent trip to the United States, he was able to convey Turkiye's stance on important matters related to Syria.
According to Qatar News Agency, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty mentioned that he had talked with Fidan about the current discussions in New York regarding the US-proposed resolution to create an international stabilization force in Gaza. Abdelatty emphasized that such a force must be for peacekeeping, not peace enforcement, adding that their top priority is to stabilize the ceasefire, followed by the deployment of international forces under a clearly defined peacekeeping mandate.
Abdelatty stressed the importance of ensuring that the proposed U.S. resolution is practical and implementable, noting that dialogue on the matter remains ongoing. The resolution establishing the international task force in Gaza, he stressed, must be drafted with precision and care, taking into account the future rights of the Palestinian people. Abdelatty added that they agreed with the Turkish side on the importance of joint efforts to support the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and to move toward implementing the second phase.
On bilateral relations, Abdelatty expressed Egypt's anticipation of hosting the second session of the High-Level Strategic Council in Cairo soon, with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
