Trump Says US ‘Pretty Close’ to Minerals Deal with Ukraine

Doha: US President Donald Trump said that the United States is "pretty close" to an agreement with Ukraine on sharing revenue from Ukrainian minerals as part of efforts to end the Ukraine war. Trump told delegates at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) near Washington: "I'm trying to get the money back, or secured." He said that European countries had given their aid as a loan but the US had not.

According to Qatar News Agency, Trump emphasized the need for Ukraine to provide something in return for the financial support from the US. He expressed his desire for a tangible return on the considerable financial aid the US has provided, contrasting it with the European approach where aid was extended as loans. Trump's remarks highlight his administration's focus on negotiating terms that would benefit the US economically.

The comments came during a gathering at CPAC, a significant annual event for conservatives, where Trump reiterated his commitment to ensuring that US investments abroad yield reciprocal benefits. The proposed minerals deal with Ukraine could potentially serve as a model for future US foreign aid and investment strategies, emphasizing the importance of securing returns for American taxpayers.
