There Is Real Chance of Reaching Peace Deal in Gaza, Says US President

Doha: US President Donald Trump affirmed Tuesday that there is a real chance for reaching a peace deal in Gaza, with indirect talks between Israel and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) underway in Egypt’s Sharm El Sheikh. “We are very close to making a deal on the Middle East that will bring peace to the Middle East,” Trump said to reporters at the Oval Office during his meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

According to Qatar News Agency, Trump asserted that the US negotiators are engaging in these ongoing talks as well, after the White House announced Monday that Trump’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would undertake a role in these talks. “There is a real chance we can do something. I think there’s a possibility of bringing peace to the Middle East. It’s something even beyond the Gaza situation,” Trump said.

“Our team is there now, another team just left, and other countries, literally every country in the world, has supported this plan,” Trump added. He emphasized that the United States would do everything possible to ensure all parties adhere to the agreement if Hamas and Israel agree to a ceasefire to end the war.
