Ramallah – Ma’an – The President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, received today, Tuesday, at his residence in the Dead Sea region, the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, on the sidelines of his participation in the work of the ‘Gaza Emergency Humanitarian Response Conference,’ hosted by Jordan.
His Excellency thanked the Spanish Prime Minister for his country’s courageous and principled positions in recognizing the State of Palestine, which comes as a continuation of the positions of the Kingdom of Spain in support of international law and international legitimacy, and in support of the right of the Palestinian people to freedom and independence.
The President stressed that the decision to recognize the Palestinian state will contribute to protecting the two-state solution, which is being systematically destroyed, and achieving security, peace and stability for all.
During the meeting, His Excellency reviewed the latest developments on the Palestinian arena, and the ongoing efforts with all
parties to stop the continuing Israeli aggression against our Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, the withdrawal of the occupation forces from the entire Gaza Strip, and accelerating the entry of aid to avoid the dangers of a real famine facing them. Our people due to the occupation’s control over all crossings in the Gaza Strip and their closure, as well as the necessity of immediately releasing Palestinian funds withheld from Israel, and stopping the measures to stifle the Palestinian economy.
For his part, the Spanish Prime Minister renewed his country’s support for the Palestinian people and their inalienable and legitimate rights to their land and homeland, their right to self-determination, and the establishment of their independent state.
The Spanish government announced its recognition of the State of Palestine as an independent and sovereign state on May 28.
The work of the “Gaza Emergency Humanitarian Response Conference”, organized by the Hashemite K
ingdom of Jordan and the Arab Republic of Egypt, in cooperation with the United Nations, was launched this morning, at the King Hussein bin Talal Conference Center in the Dead Sea region, with the participation of leaders of states, heads of government, and heads of humanitarian and relief organizations. International, with the aim of “identifying ways to strengthen the international community’s response to the humanitarian disaster in the Gaza Strip.”
