Doha: Authorities in Singapore revealed on Monday that the country's four major telecommunications companies were subjected to a sophisticated cyberattack carried out by a group known as "UNC3886". Authorities stressed that no customer data was stolen and that the attack was fully contained.
According to Qatar News Agency, Minister for Digital Development and Information Josephine Teo said in a statement that the attackers, in one instance, managed to gain access to a limited number of critical systems, without causing service disruptions or accessing sensitive customer data held by the companies.
The Minister added that the ongoing investigations have so far shown no evidence of personal data breaches or leaks, noting that the swift response by the relevant authorities effectively curtailed the attackers' activity.
According to cybersecurity firm Mandiant, the UNC3886 group is suspected of being linked to cyber-espionage operations targeting strategic institutions around the world.
