Doha: For the first time, Syria's Halbouni Market is showcasing a rich trove of rare manuscripts, classic literature, and historical works at the Doha International Book Fair, represented by twenty Syrian publishing houses and libraries.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Halbouni Market pavilion was designed to reflect the heritage of Damascus. It is one of the oldest Syrian markets, established in the late Ottoman era, and is distinguished by its rich cultural and historical character.
In this context, a participant from the Halbouni Market, Jamal Muhammad Nassif, emphasized the importance of the Doha International Book Fair as a key platform for Arab and international publishers. He noted that the Market's presence at the fair highlights its role as a symbol of Syrian heritage and culture, with a collective contribution from several Syrian libraries.
He added that the Market's libraries are displaying classic and rare books in the fields of science, culture, literature, poetry, and knowledge, in addition to a collection of unique manuscripts, noting that the participation is distinguished by the quality of the exhibits.
Nassif pointed out that the participating libraries also offer rare calligraphy panels by prominent Syrian calligraphers, handwritten and decorated with intricate motifs.
It is worth noting that the Halbouni Market is located near the Hejaz Station in the center of the Syrian capital, Damascus, and has been historically associated with a number of distinguished Syrian libraries that combine authentic heritage with modern knowledge.
