Syrian-Iranian talks to enhance cooperation in oil derivatives and electric energy field

Prime Minister, Eng. Hussein Arnous, met Monday with Iranian Ambassador in Damascus, Dr. Hossein Akbari and his accompanying delegation.

Talks during the meeting underlined the need to strengthen cooperation in oil derivatives and electric energy field, and to follow up on all the understandings reached during the recent visit of Ebrahim Raisi, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, to Syria and his meeting with President Bashar al-Assad.

The two sides also highlighted the need to open new horizons for bilateral relations in the social, cultural, banking, science, technology, health, insurance and other important vital sectors.

Taking all necessary measures to develop economic relations, enhance trade exchange in local currencies, establish banking channels, as well as increase and diversify joint investment projects to include various sectors and develop implementation programs for agreements were also on the table.

The meeting also touched on setting up executive programs for the agreements and understandings signed between the two countries recently in a way that serves common interests and reflects positively on the two friendly countries and peoples.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of encouraging the business sectors in both Syria and Iran to enhance cooperation and invest their capabilities in establishing partnerships that contribute to improving the economic reality of the two countries in light of the blockade and economic sanctions imposed on them.

Arnous noted that that the ground is available to increase the volume of trade exchange and open the markets of the two countries by facilitating customs procedures and exemptions and overcoming the difficulties facing joint work.

In turn, Iranian Ambassador said that his country will continue to provide support to Syria, especially in the economic field to confront the economic blockade imposed on it.

Akbari stressed the desire of Iranian companies to participate in the reconstruction phase, especially in the field of energy.
