Doha: Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani welcomed US President Donald Trump's signing of an executive order to lift sanctions on Syria: In a post on X, Minister Al-Shaibani welcomed the removal of the majority of sanctions imposed on the Syrian Arab Republic, calling the executive order issued by President Trump a historic decision. Lifting the sanctions will help propel Syria into a new phase of prosperity, stability, and openness to the international community, he added.

According to Qatar News Agency, the minister emphasized that removing this significant barrier to economic recovery would pave the way for long-anticipated reconstruction and development efforts. The rehabilitation of crucial infrastructure is expected to create the necessary conditions for the safe and dignified return of displaced Syrians to their homeland.

Trump signed the executive order on Monday, officially ending many US sanctions on Syria, marking a significant shift in US foreign policy towards the war-torn nation.
