Doha: Sudan Foreign Ministry has condemned the attack on a joint UNICEF and World Food Programme (WFP) humanitarian convoy, which resulted in the deaths of five aid workers and injuries to others in western Sudan.
According to Qatar News Agency, in a statement Tuesday, the ministry held the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) responsible for the attack, urging governments and international organizations to denounce the assault and hold RSF fully accountable. The ministry warned that blocking humanitarian aid from reaching those in need risks starving civilians in besieged areas, including El Fasher, which the UN Security Council has called to be freed from blockade since June 13, 2024.
Sudan government reaffirmed its commitment to cooperating with the United Nations and all specialized humanitarian agencies to ensure aid reaches beneficiaries across the country. UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres called for an urgent investigation into the attack earlier today.
Since the conflict erupted on April 15, 2023, between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF, Sudan has witnessed a massive displacement crisis, with over 12 million people forcibly displaced, marking it as the world’s worst displacement crisis, according to UN reports.
