Spokesperson for Ministry of Foreign Affairs Clarifies Qatar’s Suspension of Mediation Efforts in Gaza.

Doha: The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, has clarified that Qatar’s decision to suspend mediation efforts between the Israeli occupation and Hamas was due to the lack of seriousness from the participating parties in the negotiations. Despite the suspension, Hamas’ office in Doha remains open.

According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Al Ansari emphasized during a weekly briefing that Qatar remains committed to its role in de-escalating tensions and alleviating Palestinian suffering in Gaza. He highlighted that negotiations are on hold until there is a demonstration of genuine commitment from the involved parties. Qatar will continue its humanitarian efforts and coordinate with Egypt and other Arab countries to provide aid to Palestinians.

Dr. Al Ansari reiterated that Qatar would not allow itself to be manipulated during negotiations and is focused on securing the return of prisoners and hostages. He stated that Qatar informed the parties involved that mediatio
n would be suspended if no agreement was reached. Qatar is prepared to resume its mediation role when favorable conditions emerge, maintaining its stance on the immediate need to end the war and deliver humanitarian aid.

In response to some European countries banning arms sales to Israel, Dr. Al Ansari expressed support for such decisions, emphasizing Qatar’s commitment to reducing global conflicts. He also touched on Qatar’s position regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, advocating for Ukraine’s sovereignty and peaceful resolution.

Dr. Al Ansari announced that HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi will lead Qatar’s delegation to the upcoming GCC Ministerial Preparatory Meeting. He also mentioned recent diplomatic engagements, including meetings between high-ranking Qatari and Kuwaiti officials and visits to Jordan.

The spokesperson condemned the Israeli bombing of a UNRWA school in Gaza, resulting in casualties, and highlighted Qatar’s continuous humanitarian aid to Afghani
stan and Lebanon, underscoring the country’s ongoing commitment to international humanitarian efforts.
