Speakers of GCC Legislative Councils Congratulate Qatar on Success of General Referendum on Draft Constitutional Amendments.

Abu Dhabi: Their Excellencies Speakers of the Shura, Representatives, National and Ummah Councils in the GCC countries congratulated the State of Qatar on the success of the General Referendum on the draft constitutional amendments to the permanent constitution of the State of Qatar. According to Qatar News Agency, this expression of support was conveyed in the final statement of the 18th regular meeting of Speakers of the Shura, Representatives, National and Ummah Councils in the GCC countries, which was held Tuesday in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The statement highlighted the significant role played by the Shura Council of the State of Qatar during its presidency of the 17th regular meeting, noting that this role has enhanced cooperation and coordination among the Gulf legislative councils and positively influenced joint Gulf action. The conferees voiced their serious concern over the ongoing crisis in Palestine, emphasizing the international community's responsibility to protect Palestinian civilian s in the Gaza Strip and other occupied territories. They also called for the immediate lifting of the siege on the Gaza Strip and the unconditional opening of all crossings to facilitate the delivery of essential humanitarian, relief, and medical assistance to residents of the Strip. Furthermore, they expressed solidarity with the people of Lebanon and urged increased regional and global efforts to end the conflict in Lebanon and provide emergency humanitarian support to alleviate civilian suffering. The Speakers agreed to select the legislative role of the Gulf legislative councils in governing Artificial Intelligence: Reality, challenges, and future prospects as the common Gulf topic for 2025. This topic will be discussed during the councils' sessions. The statement also praised the recommendations from the symposium on cultural diversity and the role of Gulf legislative councils in protecting Gulf identity, organized by the Shura Council as part of the previous session's Gulf topic. As a result, they made several key decisions to strengthen parliamentary relationships among GCC states and boost Gulf parliamentary cooperation at various levels. Additionally, the statement commended the outcomes of the first GCC-EU summit held in Brussels. The Speakers welcomed Saudi Arabia's hosting of the first Global Alliance dedicated to advancing the two-state solution and noted the convening of the Joint Arab-Islamic Summit in Saudi Arabia to address the ongoing Israeli aggression on the occupied Palestinian territories and Lebanon, along with other current developments in the region.
