SpaceX announced Tuesday that the launch of the first spacewalk of the four-person Polaris Dawn mission has been postponed by at least one day due to a helium leak in ground equipment at the Kennedy Space Center, with the decision to postpone coming hours before the launch was scheduled.
The five-day mission is the first commercial spacewalk in history, with the crew expected to walk for 20 minutes 700 kilometers above Earth.
The company said in a post that it now aims to launch the spacecraft aboard a Falcon 9 rocket tomorrow, Wednesday, as teams work to check for helium leaks in ground equipment.
SpaceX has postponed the launch several times, as it was scheduled to launch yesterday, Monday, on a civilian mission that includes the first commercial spacewalk ever, but announced that the launch date would be postponed until today, Tuesday, and on the same day announced that the launch date would be postponed by one day until tomorrow, Wednesday, August 28.
