South Korea Cabinet to Confirm June 3 Presidential Election Date

Seoul: South Korea's cabinet is set to confirm the June 3 presidential election date to choose a successor for the removed President Yoon Suk Yeol, as reported by Yonhap news on Monday. The decision is anticipated during a Cabinet meeting scheduled for Tuesday.

According to Qatar News Agency, a cabinet official stated that Acting President Han Duck-soo is expected to finalize the election schedule in the upcoming meeting. The official emphasized the importance of this decision, noting that the election day will be designated as a temporary public holiday, which requires approval during the Cabinet meeting.

President Yoon was removed from office by the Constitutional Court following his brief declaration of martial law in December 2024. The constitution mandates that a presidential election must occur within 60 days of a president's removal, prompting the June 3 election date.
