Somali Army Destroys Al Shabaab Sites in Southern Somalia

Baraawe: The Somali National Army (SNA) announced that it had destroyed positions controlled by the Al Shabaab movement, affiliated with Al Qaeda, in the south of the country.

According to Qatar News Agency, Somali news agency (SONNA) reported that SNA forces, in cooperation with South West State Darawish troops, carried out a military operation in areas on the outskirts of Baraawe, noting that they were able to destroy positions controlled by Al Shabaab and expel its members.

The SNA explained that the armed forces and South West State Darawish troops have intensified their activities against the militants, noting that these forces will continue operations to ensure public security in the region.

Somali forces have been fighting Al Shabaab for more than a decade, which has claimed responsibility for several attacks that have killed hundreds of civilians and security personnel. Within months, they had succeeded in recapturing several areas previously controlled by the movement.
