Mogadishu: The Somali army announced today the killing of five militants in a military operation that took place in the southwest of the country.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Somali National News Agency (SONNA) reported that the military operation saw the destruction of all bases used by militants to plan their attacks.

The Somali army has recently intensified its military operations to eliminate armed groups, and has urged citizens to cooperate with Somali security. It is worth noting that Somali security forces in recent months have regained control in the central and southern parts of the country from the armed Al Qaeda-affiliated Al Shabaab movement.
