Shura Councils of Qatar and Saudi Arabia Sign MoU to Enhance Parliamentary Cooperation

Doha: The Shura Council held an official round of discussions with its counterpart in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, focusing on the trajectory of parliamentary relations and methods to enhance collaboration. The discussions also covered the development of joint action mechanisms across various regional and global forums.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatari delegation was led by HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, while the Saudi delegation was headed by HE Speaker of the Shura Council Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Sheikh, who is visiting Doha to bolster cooperation between the two councils.

HE Al Ghanim extended a warm welcome to his Saudi counterpart, highlighting the enduring ties and clear directives from both leaderships as a solid foundation for joint parliamentary efforts. On the other hand, HE Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Sheikh expressed appreciation for the reception and praised the growing relationship and coordination between Qatar and Saudi Arabia. He cited the commitment of both nations' leaderships to deepening their collaborative approach.

Discussions underscored the historic ties between the two peoples, based on shared values, mutual trust, and friendship. The relationship is supported by a commitment to deepen cooperation across various sectors, paving the way for expanded institutional collaboration in parliamentary and developmental arenas.

The dialogue also referenced HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's recent visit to Riyadh and the subsequent meeting with HRH Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. This visit resulted in agreements on a high-speed electric rail link and several memoranda of understanding in transportation, investment, food security, and media.

Both Speakers noted that these developments strengthen bilateral relations and support economic integration, facilitating commercial traffic between the two nations. Topics concerning the advancement of parliamentary cooperation were also explored, emphasizing the importance of coordinated positions in parliamentary, Gulf, Arab, and international forums to enhance joint actions in the interests of the GCC states and Arab and Islamic nations.

The discussions concluded with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening institutional cooperation between the two councils. This agreement is expected to advance parliamentary coordination and knowledge-sharing, as well as increase parliamentary visits between the two sides.
