Shura Council Praises Amir’s Role in Arab Summit and Advances Innovation Law

Doha: The Shura Council held its regular weekly session on Monday, presided over by HE the Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim. The council expressed commendation for HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's participation in the extraordinary Arab Summit held on March 4 in Cairo.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Shura Council emphasized that the summit occurred at a critical juncture, addressing the latest developments concerning the Palestinian issue. HH the Amir's involvement underscored Qatar's unwavering commitment to supporting the rights of the Palestinian people and contributing to international efforts to halt aggression on the Gaza Strip. The council also acknowledged the summit's outcomes, which highlighted a unified Arab stance on the Palestinian cause, rejecting any plans for transfer or demographic changes, and reiterating the need for a just peace based on the two-state solution, with an independent Palestinian state established on the 1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital.

Following these discussions, HE the Secretary-General Nayef bin Mohammed Al Mahmoud presented the session agenda, and the minutes from the previous session were approved. The council then progressed to approve a draft law aimed at supporting innovation and scientific research, following a detailed review of the Economic and Financial Affairs Committee's report. This draft law has been forwarded to the government for further consideration.

Additionally, the session included discussions on the Shura Council's involvement in the 36th meeting of the Executive Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) held in Cairo in December 2024. The council also sanctioned six requests to extend the work of its standing committees to review topics assigned to them.
