Rome: The Shura Council has actively participated in the Second Parliamentary Conference on Interfaith Dialogue, held in Rome. Organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union in collaboration with the Italian Parliament and supported by Religions for Peace, the event was titled 'Strengthening trust and embracing hope for our common future'. The council was represented by HE Nasser bin Mohammed Al Nuaimi and HE Abdullah bin Nasser bin Turki Al Subaie.
According to Qatar News Agency, the three-day conference included sessions focused on promoting peaceful coexistence, preventing religious defamation, upholding shared values, and combating hate speech rooted in religion or belief. Discussions also centered on the significance of ethical leadership, investing in education for peace, and promoting solidarity with vulnerable groups such as refugees, migrants, and those affected by humanitarian crises. The event highlighted effective practices for enhancing parliamentary collaboration with religious and social leaders.
In its closing statement, the conference participants underscored shared principles, including the promotion of mutual respect and human dignity, rejecting the use of religion or belief to justify violence or incite hatred, and advocating for a culture of dialogue and openness. The statement also stressed the importance of supporting freedom of thought and belief and the need to fortify partnerships between parliaments and religious leaders to address global challenges, thereby contributing to the development of more just and cohesive societies.
