Doha: The Shura Council held its regular weekly session in Tamim bin Hamad Hall at the Council's headquarters, chaired by HE Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim. During the session, the Council expressed its condolences to the families of the martyrs from the Qatari Armed Forces, joint Qatari-Turkish forces, and Turkish civilian collaborators who perished in a helicopter crash in Qatari territorial waters.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Council strongly condemned the Iranian attacks on Qatar and several allied countries. It urged for the cessation of these attacks, emphasizing the importance of international law, the United Nations Charter, and the principles of good neighborliness. The Council commended the protective measures taken by Qatar to uphold its sovereignty and ensure the safety of its citizens while pursuing diplomatic efforts to maintain regional stability.
HE Secretary-General of the Shura Council Nayef bin Mohammed Al Mahmoud presented the agenda, with the Council endorsing the minutes of the previous meeting. The session included a review of a draft law amending provisions of Law No. 4 of 2008 on Property Leasing, which was referred to the Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee for further study.
The Council also approved a draft law amending Labor Law No. 14 of 2004, following a report from the Social Affairs, Labour and Housing Committee. This draft was referred to the government after discussions among the Council members.
The Shura Council discussed its recommendations on agricultural support mechanisms for local farms and their role in enhancing food security. The Council praised the government's cooperation, noting the high level of coordination between the legislative and executive branches in supporting national objectives.
Additionally, the Council reviewed reports on its participation in various parliamentary events, including the Asian Parliamentary Assembly's Budget and Planning Committee meeting in Doha, the Inter-Parliamentary Union Consultative Session, and a briefing on artificial intelligence governance.
