Awdhegle: The Somali army announced Wednesday the killing of seven members of the Al Shabaab movement, linked to Al Qaeda, in a military operation carried out in the Awdhegle area of Lower Shabelle region in the south of the country.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Somali army stated that the military operation was initiated after receiving intelligence information confirming the presence of militants who were posing a threat to the lives of farmers in the area.
The statement from the Somali army emphasized the commitment of the security forces to continue their operations against the remnants of Al Shabaab until the local population is secure. The goal is to support stability and development in the areas that have been liberated.
Somali forces have been engaged in a prolonged fight against Al Shabaab for more than a decade. The group has been responsible for numerous attacks that have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of civilians and security personnel. In recent months, the Somali forces have successfully recaptured several areas that were previously under the control of Al Shabaab.
