Settlers’ terrorism raises the fees for transporting trucks between the West Bank and Gaza

The head of the Plastic Industries Union, a member of the Board of Directors of the Hebron Governorate Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Kamel Al-Zeer Al-Husseini, and the economic advisor and member of the Board of Directors of the Hebron Chamber, inspected the situation of truck drivers at the Tarqumiya crossing.

They listened to a detailed explanation from the shippers’ official, Adel Amr, about the general situation of truck drivers, in light of the continuing settlers’ attack on trucks loaded with food supplies heading to the Gaza Strip.

Amr explained that the food supplies are from imported merchants in the West Bank and are transported to merchants in the Gaza Strip via the Tarqumiya and Kerem Shalom crossings, and have no connection to any organization working in the relief field locally or internationally.

He pointed out in his speech that, since the start of their work last week until today, Sunday, about 500 trucks were supposed to be sent, but due to terrorism and settlers’ attacks on trucks an
d the destruction of food supplies in addition to the destruction of transport trucks, only 200 trucks were sent, and this led to Raising transportation prices from the Tarqumiya crossing to the Kerem Shalom crossing from 5,000 shekels to 20,000 shekels due to the high risks to the transportation process.

He drew attention to the existence of facilities from the Israeli side for the entry of food supplies according to a list of items that are allowed to be transported, which is updated on a daily basis, and they are informed of that, and sometimes goods are returned from the Kerem Shalom crossing due to the continuous updates to the list.

At the end of the meeting, Amr presented to Al-Husseini and Hassouna a set of pressing requests for truck drivers. They promised to study these requests with the competent authorities and work to assist them in resolving them.

In a related context, Al-Husseini and Hassouna met with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al-Salam Investment Group, Abdul Halim Al-Natsheh
, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Resources Investment Company, Adel Al-Haymouni, in two separate meetings, and they listened to a detailed explanation from them about the process of trade exchange between the two parts of the country, and the extent of its impact on the strategic reserve. Natsheh and Al-Haymouni confirmed that the materials sent from the West Bank to Gaza are sold at cost price in view of the exceptional situation in which the Strip is experiencing, indicating the readiness of all West Bank merchants to supply the Gaza Strip with the necessary goods and foodstuffs at cost price.

For their part, Al-Husseini and Hassouna expressed optimism from the good conversations they heard from Natsheh and Al-Haymouni, expressing their hope that food transfers from the West Bank to Gaza will increase during the coming period, without affecting their situation in the West Bank
