Doha: Specialists in the architectural field gathered for a seminar titled "Architecture of Culture: The Role of Design in Shaping the Cultural Landscape," part of the Cultural Salon at the Doha International Book Fair. The session explored the relationship between architectural and engineering design of buildings and the cultural and heritage identity of nations, as well as the broader concept of building a cultural landscape. According to Qatar News Agency, Architect Mohammed Al Naimi highlighted that the rapid pace of urban transformations around the world is driving engineers to complete projects more quickly and at lower costs while maintaining quality. He emphasized the importance of integrating architectural designs with local culture and identity so that buildings do not appear as mere static structures devoid of soul and belonging. He pointed out that, since the beginning of human history, people have drawn inspiration for their homes from their environment and cultural identity, citing the example of traditional tents, which reflected the spirit of the place while meeting the housing needs. Al Naimi noted that the accelerated construction pace in recent years has led to the development of many cities around the world without consideration for cultural uniqueness or local identity. He pointed out that in recent years most of the buildings constructed in Qatar reflected the cultural identity of the country. Al Naimi explained that the stadiums for the 2022 World Cup, such as Al Bayt Stadium, which was designed in the shape of a tent, and Al Thumama Stadium, inspired by the traditional Qatari headgear, Gahfiya.
