Doha: Iraq's Military Intelligence Directorate announced Sunday the arrest of five ISIS members in western and northern regions of the country.

According to Qatar News Agency, in a statement, the directorate said security forces apprehended the ISIS members in Diyala, Anbar, and Kirkuk provinces. Authorities have launched investigations into their activities.

Despite the Iraqi government's declaration in late 2017 that ISIS had been defeated, remnants of the group continue to carry out sporadic attacks across various parts of the country. Security forces remain engaged in ongoing operations to track down sleeper cells and prevent further violence.
