Security Council Reviews Middle East Conflict and Palestinian Concerns

Doha: The UN Security Council convened for its regular monthly briefing and closed consultations on "The Situation in the Middle East, Including the Palestinian Question." Addressing the meeting, Permanent Representative of Palestine to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, emphasized Israel's strategy in the Gaza Strip, East Jerusalem, and the broader West Bank, which he claimed aims to eliminate the Palestinian demographic presence and erase Palestinian geography.

According to Qatar News Agency, Mansour highlighted that the conflict cannot be resolved militarily but requires a political solution. He stressed the necessity of upholding the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and ensuring its complete implementation in line with Security Council Resolution 2735, while also calling for a halt to escalation and aggression in the West Bank.

In response, Ambassador Amar Bendjama, Algeria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, claimed that the Israeli occupation has resulted in the deaths of approximately 18,000 children in the Gaza Strip, necessitating an independent investigation. He underscored the importance of fully implementing the ceasefire agreement and insisted that adherence to Security Council Resolution 2735 is crucial.

Bendjama added that reconstructing Gaza requires a comprehensive plan to ensure the Palestinian people can remain on their land. He also noted the occupation's scorched-earth policy in Gaza and its extension of aggression to the West Bank.

He condemned Israel's decision to seize $90 million in Palestinian tax revenues, stating that undermining the Palestinian Authority poses a significant threat to the foundation of the Palestinian national project.
