Second Day of ICAO Facilitation Conference Underway in Doha

Doha: The second day of the ICAO Facilitation Conference (FALC 2025) is underway today in Doha, bringing together senior officials, aviation experts, and representatives of international organizations from around the world.

According to Qatar News Agency, the four-day conference is hosted by the State of Qatar and organized by the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) in collaboration with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Held under the theme "Facilitating the Future of Air Transport: Collaboration, Efficiency, Inclusivity," the conference aims to address pressing issues in global aviation facilitation.

The agenda of the second day features a series of in-depth sessions covering topics such as Travel Document Integrity, Border Control, Addressing Inadmissible Persons, Deportees, Refugees and Stateless Persons, Addressing Human Trafficking and Irregular Migration, Assistance to Aircraft Accident Victims and their Families (AAAVF), and Capacity Building and Implementation Support for States.

During the first day, participants in high-level panel discussions focused on the future of air travel and prioritized digital identity. They emphasized the need for effective partnerships between governments and airlines to achieve a paperless travel experience, exchanging ideas on key facilitation issues that airlines and aviation authorities must adopt in the future, including secure and seamless information exchange.

They noted that the aviation sector is going through a critical phase, amid travel complexities and sustainability challenges, with air travel demand increasing by more than 10% in 2024. This calls for strengthened cooperation between government agencies and supply chain partners, the development of infrastructure, and the adoption of advanced technologies such as e-gates and biometric ID to enhance the passenger experience and improve cargo efficiency.

Speakers at the conference urged for optimal utilization of airline resources, adoption of the latest technologies, and streamlining operations to reduce costs and improve operational efficiency. They also stressed the importance of investing in human capital through training and incentive programs, as well as simplifying processes across aviation and the supply chain to build a more sustainable aviation sector.

The first day included meetings on the sidelines of the ICAO Conference between the civil aviation authorities of the State of Qatar, ICAO, and several other countries. These meetings resulted in the signing of air services agreements and memorandums of understanding, discussing a wide range of issues of mutual interest in civil aviation and exploring ways to develop and enhance them to serve common interests.

The conference is accompanied by an exhibition featuring the participation of various organizations and companies, offering them an opportunity to showcase the latest procedures and technologies in air transport facilitation.
