Search Operations Underway after German Army Helicopter Crash in Eastern Germany

Grimma: Emergency crews in Germany are continuing search operations for a missing crew member from a German Air Force helicopter that crashed into a river during a training mission in the eastern part of the country, killing at least two servicemen. Divers on Wednesday combed the River Mulde in the town of Grimma, near Leipzig, while soldiers conducted search operations along both banks of the river, with a help of a German Air Force search-and-rescue helicopter equipped with special sensors flying over the crash site.

According to Qatar News Agency, the crash occurred on Tuesday, when two crew members were found dead and a third remains unaccounted for. The ill-fated helicopter, an EC-135 assigned to Helicopter Wing 64 (Hubschraubergeschwader 64), based in Holzdorf, was flying at low altitude when it went down near a bridge over the A14 motorway.

The cause of the crash remains unknown, prompting the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) to declare the area a sealed military security zone and imposed a no-fly zone.
