Doha: South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has announced a comprehensive three-stage plan aimed at achieving the denuclearization of North Korea. This pledge underscores Seoul's commitment to engaging with Pyongyang through dialogue, leveraging its strong alliance with the United States.
According to Qatar News Agency, in an interview prior to his visit to Tokyo for summit discussions with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, President Lee detailed the first phase of the plan, which focuses on freezing North Korea's nuclear and missile programs. This initial step is crucial to halting further development and setting the stage for more significant disarmament efforts.
President Lee further elaborated that the second and third phases of the plan are designed to fully reduce and dismantle North Korea's nuclear capabilities. He emphasized that achieving these objectives would involve close coordination with Washington and the creation of conducive conditions for resuming inter-Korean dialogue. The ultimate goal is to ensure a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula through sustained diplomatic efforts.
