Russian Scientists Develop First Photonic Radar Capable of Detecting Small Objects in Airspace

Doha: Russian scientists have unveiled the first photonic radar prototype capable of detecting tiny airborne objects like birds near airports. Developed by St. Petersburg State Electrotechnical University, the system uses a laser source and fiber-optic components to generate ultra-wideband signals with high stability and low noise.

According to Qatar News Agency, project lead Vladimir Kotuzov said the radar overcomes physical limits of conventional systems, offering centimeter-level precision and improved reliability. Tests confirmed its ability to spot small targets with unprecedented clarity.
