Moscow: Russia has opposed any Western security guarantees for Ukraine excluding Moscow. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, speaking ahead of a NATO Chiefs of Staff meeting to discuss the matter, said that discussing security guarantees seriously without the Russian Federation is a road to nowhere. He added that proposals to resolve collective security issues without involving Russia are rejected.
According to Qatar News Agency, Lavrov also accused European leaders-some of whom visited the White House on Monday-of making attempts to influence US President Donald Trump's stance on Ukraine. He stated that there were no constructive ideas from the Europeans, and criticized the West's confrontational stance and insistence on continuing the war, which he claims are not understood by the current US administration, which is trying to address the root causes of the conflict.
NATO Chiefs of Staff are holding a virtual meeting to discuss the war in Ukraine as part of ongoing discussions among Kyiv's allies about the security guarantees that may be offered if a peace agreement is reached with Moscow. This comes amid intensified diplomatic efforts following the meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin last Friday in Alaska.
