Russia Criticizes UN Security Council’s Inaction on Gaza Conflict

Russia: The Russian Foreign Ministry affirmed on Friday that the UN Security Council's failure to stop the bloodshed in the Gaza Strip is regrettable and disappointing.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated on its official website that the inability of the UN Security Council to halt the fighting and bloodshed, as well as end the suffering of civilians, can only cause deep regret and disappointment.

In a separate statement, Russia expressed grave concern over the large-scale Israeli attack on Gaza City, highlighting it as evidence of a lack of willingness to negotiate. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, in a media briefing, noted that the attack "has sparked panic among the local population remaining in the city, whose population is just under one million." She warned that the consequences of this move are evident: it will lead to new civilian casualties and worsen the already dire humanitarian situation.

The US recently vetoed a draft resolution in the UN Security Council that called for an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The resolution had the backing of fourteen out of the fifteen Council members.

The proposed resolution also demanded that the Israeli government immediately and unconditionally lift all restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, ensuring its safe and unhindered distribution to those in need, particularly by the United Nations and its humanitarian partners.
