The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), will hold tomorrow the “regional meeting on following up on the implementation of the Arab Strategy for Child Protection in the Context of Asylum in the Arab Region”.
The League of Arab States said in a statement Monday that the meeting, which will be held via the electronic platform, aims to review what has been achieved at the national level since the adoption of the strategy and its attached action plan, in addition to obtaining accurate information on the challenges facing member states in terms of implementation, as well as reviewing existing or planned measures for prevention and response mechanisms to protect children, and participating in concrete steps and committing to implementing a comprehensive approach that includes the relevant ministries to move forward in this regard.
The meeting will be attended by representatives of the concerned parties from member states,
those responsible for child protection in United Nations agencies, in addition to practitioners and decision-makers regarding issues related to child protection in the countries concerned.
The Arab Strategy for Child Protection in the Context of Asylum in the Arab Region came in implementation of the recommendation issued by the 12th meeting of the Follow-up Committee to Stop Violence against Children, which was held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in November 2014, which requested the Family and Childhood Department of the Social Affairs Sector of the Arab League to prepare this strategy in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
