QRCS Completes Health Initiative for Refugees in Bangladesh

Cox’s Bazar: In collaboration with Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has concluded a project to improve health care services for refugees at camps and the local community in Cox’s Bazar, southern Bangladesh. The project aimed to enhance the quality of health care delivery to vulnerable populations residing in these areas.

According to Qatar News Agency, the initiative provided free-of-charge emergency medical services and specialized consultations for both refugees and the host community. These services included emergency care, maternal and child health services, outpatient clinics, laboratory and diagnostic tests, radiology, and referrals. The project aimed to address both immediate health needs and long-term health care challenges in the region.

The project also featured large-scale health awareness campaigns at the camps focusing on disease prevention and the promotion of healthy behaviors. These campaigns played a crucial role in raising health awareness and reducing the spread of diseases among the camp populations.

To further support the local community, the initiative included capacity-building efforts, such as training 78 community midwives to provide safe obstetric services. Additionally, a training workshop on infection prevention and control (IPC) was held for 40 health care providers working at the supported facilities.

QRCS’s commitment to providing comprehensive and sustainable health care services for refugees and host communities was the driving force behind this project. It is part of an integrated humanitarian response designed to alleviate suffering and improve the quality of life in displacement and refugee settings.
