QOC President Celebrates Team Qatar’s Success at GCC Games ‘ Doha 2026

Doha: HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, President of the Olympic Council of Asia, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, and President of the Organising Committee of the 4th GCC Games ' Doha 2026, honored Team Qatar athletes and national teams following the historic achievement they accomplished at the 4th GCC Games ' Doha 2026. According to Qatar News Agency, the ceremony was attended by HE First Vice President of the Qatar Olympic Committee Mohammed bin Yousuf Al Mana, HE Second Vice President of the Qatar Olympic Committee Dr. Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari, and HE Secretary-General of the Qatar Olympic Committee and Vice Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Games Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain, alongside several senior sports officials, federation presidents, and GCC delegations. During the ceremony, HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani emphasized that the achievement by Team Qatar is a source of pride for all people of Qatar. He praised the performances of the athletes, who succeeded in winnin g 134 medals, including 48 gold and 50 silver medals. This accomplishment reflects the effort and hard work put in, especially amid strong participation and competition from GCC teams. His Excellency noted that the GCC Games served as vital preparation for future competitions, particularly the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya. He underscored the importance of sustained effort and focus, especially for athletes participating in the Asian Games for the first time. He highlighted the role of experienced athletes in passing on knowledge to the younger generation and strengthening the culture of competition and responsibility. Representing Qatar at major sporting events is a significant responsibility towards the nation, fans, and families of the athletes. He expressed satisfaction with how everyone fulfilled their responsibilities during the Games and acknowledged areas needing improvement ahead of the Asian Games. His Excellency stressed the importance of continuous hard work to be well-prepared for future challeng es. He concluded by thanking Team Qatar athletes, along with the technical and administrative staff, for their efforts and fighting spirit during the competitions. He expressed confidence in their ability to continue achieving success and raising Qatar's flag high in future events.
