QCH Concludes 9th Qatar School Astronomy Olympiad 2025

Doha: Qatar Calendar House on Tuesday wrapped up the 9th Qatar School Astronomy Olympiad 2025. Held in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE), the event honored a group of schools and students who participated in the contest.

According to Qatar News Agency, Executive Director of QCH, Eng. Faisal Al Ansari, highlighted that the event was intended to advance the culture of astronomy on school campuses through holding a range of theoretical and practical training programs. He added that the competition preliminarily drew broader participation from 110 schools, with approximately 86 schools participating at the end of the event.

Throughout the months of the contest, QCH organized a series of events, including a sunspot drawing activity held at the Museum of Islamic Art, an astronomy exhibition, and various workshops at the QCH premises and in schools nationwide. Al Ansari mentioned that MoEHE was entrusted with the complete oversight of this contest, with the Arab Union for Space and Astronomy Sciences officially attending the event.

Al Ansari emphasized that the astronomical culture is comparable to other sciences in terms of advancing core notions and providing essential theoretical and practical training. He noted a strong desire to leverage the outcomes of this event, ensuring that students are well-prepared with astronomical knowledge for future skills development.

Additionally, Al Ansari announced the formation of a team representing the State of Qatar in international forums and the rehabilitation of 20 students from Qatari schools to participate in the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA 2025), scheduled for August 2025. He highlighted the record turnout of participants and attendees at the closing ceremony, underscoring the students' enthusiasm for learning astronomical sciences.
