Doha: Qatar Charity (QC), in collaboration with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), has implemented a sustainable project aimed at alleviating the difficult humanitarian conditions facing the population of isolated areas across Yemen.
According to Qatar News Agency, the project intends to provide clean water and improve health conditions for over 10,000 people in the governorates of Al Hudaydah and Raymah. These areas have been suffering from a near-total lack of water and sanitation services, as well as the spread of waterborne diseases such as cholera.
The project includes a solar pumping system, a 100-cubic-meter tower tank, and a 1.2-kilometer-long water distribution network in an isolated area of Hudaydah province, where families previously traveled long distances to fetch unsafe water. In Raymah, a 30-cubic-meter collection and distribution tank and a 3.5-kilometer-long distribution network were constructed to address clean water scarcity that posed a daily threat to residents.
A separate water project in Bittakha involved constructing a 30-cubic-meter stone reservoir and a 2.8-kilometer water network in another remote area.
The project also aimed to optimize sanitation for hundreds of vulnerable families, including those affected by cholera and malnutrition, persons with disabilities, displaced families, and female-headed households. It provided protection for 311 individuals.
Additionally, hundreds of hygiene kits and water filters were distributed across several areas. The statement noted that dozens of men and women, including volunteers, were trained to oversee operations, conduct maintenance, and ensure the sustainability of this vital resource. Awareness sessions and essential community services were also delivered.
