Doha: Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI) has announced the opening of applications for its 10th Summer Research Program (SRP), which offers undergraduate students an opportunity to participate in advanced, faculty-led research initiatives.
According to Qatar News Agency, the upcoming seven-week program, scheduled from May 31 to July 16, 2026, aims to gather students from various institutions in Qatar to engage in research that aligns with national priorities, including precision medicine, disease prevention, and improved healthcare outcomes. Participants will receive mentorship from QBRI’s faculty and have access to cutting-edge facilities, with options to focus their research on areas such as the Diabetes Research Center, Translational Oncology Research Center, or Neurological Disorders Research Center.
The program continues its tradition of enhancing professional development through seminars and workshops that address essential skills for careers in scientific research. Participants will also have opportunities to engage with the broader QBRI community and gain insights across multiple biomedical fields.
In a statement, QBRI highlighted the program’s focus on key areas such as autism, cancer, and diabetes, which are significant to Qatar and the surrounding region. The SRP aims to strengthen national research capacity by preparing and empowering future leaders in biomedical research through comprehensive mentorship and practical research contributions.
Dr. Vladimir Katanaev, Acting Executive Director and Scientific Director of the Translational Oncology Research Center at QBRI, remarked on the program’s impact over the past decade, emphasizing its role in fostering a dynamic research community. He noted that initiatives like the SRP are essential for encouraging research-oriented careers, enhancing the state’s capacity in this field, and equipping the next generation of biomedical research leaders to foster innovation and scientific progress.
