Qatar’s Technological Initiatives and Support for Senior Citizens Highlighted


Doha: In its editorial, Al-Raya daily emphasized Qatar’s ongoing efforts to localize technology and build a smart nation by adopting technological initiatives and digital solutions, leveraging AI technologies. This initiative aligns with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, focusing on enhancing digital infrastructure, providing a supportive regulatory environment, and encouraging entrepreneurship and innovation.



According to Qatar News Agency, the Cabinet recently approved a draft decision to amend the organization of some administrative units within the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, defining their competencies. This amendment aims to establish and organize the National Center for Artificial Intelligence within the Ministry. The State of Qatar has also allocated incentive packages worth billions to support its comprehensive digital transformation journey, further solidifying its position as a leading hub for digital innovation in the region.



Al-Watan reported that Circular No. 20 of 2024, issued by the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, recommends using the term “senior citizens” instead of “elderly.” This change emphasizes greater respect and care for this demographic, following a proposal from the Ministry of Social Development and Family. Furthermore, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Qatar Career Development Center and the Center for Empowerment and Care of the Elderly to enhance cooperation in supporting senior citizens. This MoU aims to promote their active participation in society, support their contributions to national development, and facilitate the transfer of knowledge between generations.



The Peninsula highlighted the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip and the need for a collective international response. Severe restrictions on aid have left thousands vulnerable, necessitating humanitarian intervention and international accountability. The situation in southern Lebanon is equally concerning, with recent attacks on UN peacekeepers by Israeli drones.



Qatar has emerged as a steadfast advocate for peace and justice amid these crises. Through diplomacy and mediation, Doha has played a pivotal role in brokering ceasefires and facilitating humanitarian access. The international community is urged to rally behind these efforts, pressing for an immediate halt to indiscriminate attacks and ensuring humanitarian access.



The upcoming 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly presents an opportunity to reaffirm international support for the Palestinian cause and the two-state solution, amidst increasing condemnation of Israel’s actions in the region.
