Doha: In a recent editorial, The Peninsula, an English-language newspaper, emphasized Qatar's pivotal role in global conflict mediation. The editorial, titled "Resolving Conflicts Through Dialogue," praised Qatar's foreign policy, which is grounded in its constitutional principles. These principles include a commitment to fostering international peace and security by supporting the peaceful resolution of disputes.
According to Qatar News Agency, The Peninsula highlighted Qatar's distinguished track record in conflict mediation, noting its consistent efforts in facilitating dialogue between opposing parties while respecting national sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs. Qatar has emerged as a major mediator on the world stage, successfully resolving crises and disputes that even major powers have struggled to address. Doha's efforts in mediation have gained it international credibility and a solid reputation.
In a recent development, Qatar hosted the signing ceremony of a Declaration of Principles between the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Congo River Alliance/March 23 Movement. This event marked a significant step towards achieving peace and stability in the eastern region of the Congo. The newspaper noted that the signing was a result of Qatar's diplomatic efforts over the past months, which created a conducive environment for constructive dialogue between the two parties.
The Peninsula also highlighted some of Qatar's notable contributions to international mediation, such as securing a ceasefire deal in Gaza in January 2025, facilitating a landmark prisoner swap between the United States and Iran in August 2023, and brokering a peace agreement in Chad in August 2022. Furthermore, Qatar's mediation efforts helped restore diplomatic relations between Kenya and Somalia in May 2022 and mediated an agreement in Sudan in February 2017. The newspaper concluded by recalling the historic talks Qatar hosted between the Taliban and the Afghan government in September 2020.
In local affairs, Al-Raya newspaper focused on the Arab Investment and Export Credit Guarantee Corporation's (Dhaman) annual report, which ranked Qatar second in the Arab world and 33rd globally in the 2024 Investment Climate Index. The editorial, titled "Investment Climate in Qatar: An Attractive Environment and Promising Opportunities," emphasized Qatar's competitive investment environment, which positions it among the most attractive economies for foreign investment in the region.
Al-Raya attributed Qatar's appeal to its political and economic stability, modern legislative framework, and advanced infrastructure, along with its strategic geographic location in the Arabian Gulf, serving as a gateway to Asia, Africa, and Europe. The State offers various incentives for investors, including tax exemptions, competitively priced land allocations, and ease of profit repatriation. The editorial also highlighted Qatar's free economic zones, such as Ras Bufontas and Umm Al Houl, which offer integrated services and abundant opportunities for startups and advanced industries.
Al-Raya concluded by affirming that Qatar's investment climate extends beyond energy and infrastructure, encompassing promising sectors such as technology, financial services, tourism, education, and healthcare.
