Doha: Al-Sharq newspaper highlighted how the joint summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and the People's Republic of China commended Qatar's mediation efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, adding that the summit also expressed its condemnation of the ongoing aggression against the Palestinians.
According to Qatar News Agency, the newspaper noted that the joint statement issued by the summit expressed deep concern over the situation in Gaza, condemned all attacks on civilians, and called for a permanent ceasefire, the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid and essential services, and the necessity of adhering to international humanitarian law and protecting civilians.
The editorial concluded by noting that the Asian support and endorsement of joint mediation efforts to end the war in the Gaza Strip comes as a reinforcement of global momentum. It also adds further weight to the growing international pressure to restrain the aggression waged by the Israeli entity, contributing to the success of the joint mediation efforts led by the State of Qatar, the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the United States to end the war and open the door to a political process that brings peace and prosperity to the region and the world.
On the Arab front, The Peninsula said that the recent decisions by the United States and the European Union to lift sanctions on Syria mark a pivotal moment in the country's journey toward recovery and stability, adding that the State of Qatar has welcomed the move and stands by the Syrian people in their endeavors to rebuild their country.
In its editorial, the newspaper emphasized that Qatar has long been at the forefront of humanitarian assistance to Syria. Its humanitarian interventions include the delivery of food, medical supplies, winter clothing, and shelter to hundreds of thousands affected by the conflict and natural disasters.
Qatar and Saudi Arabia have also announced their commitment to settle approximately $15 million in Syrian arrears to the World Bank. Furthermore, Qatar is also providing natural gas to Syria to help generate electricity, the newspaper added.
The Peninsula concluded its editorial by noting that Qatar's proactive stance aligns with its broader regional policy, emphasizing the importance of lifting sanctions to facilitate Syria's recovery.
