Doha: HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani has been at the forefront of humanitarian and diplomatic initiatives this week.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Amir sent a cable of condolences to the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council of Sudan, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al Burhan, after a devastating landslide in the Marra Mountains region of Darfur. This gesture was accompanied by similar messages from other high-ranking Qatari officials, including the Deputy Amir, the Prime Minister, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
In further humanitarian efforts, the Amir directed the dispatch of four Qatari Amiri Air Force aircraft to Kabul, carrying essential humanitarian aid. The aid, provided by the Qatar Fund for Development, includes two field hospitals, food, medical supplies, and shelter materials, aiming to support approximately 11,000 beneficiaries in Afghanistan.
On the diplomatic front, HH the Amir engaged in discussions with HM King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa of Bahrain, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations across various cooperation areas. Meanwhile, HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi, met with Austria’s Federal Minister for European and International Affairs, Beate Meinl-Reisinger, to discuss matters of mutual interest.
In a move demonstrating Qatar’s commitment to international law and peace, the state condemned the Israeli attack on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, labeling it a grave violation of international humanitarian law and Security Council Resolution 1701.
Qatar’s participation in global and regional forums continues with its involvement in the Global Symposium for Regulators 2025 and the Ministerial Meeting of the Economic and Social Council at the Arab League. Additionally, the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs took part in the GCC meeting on Islamic affairs and endowments.
Domestically, Qatar celebrated educational achievements with the approval of the 2024-2025 secondary school certificate examination results by HE Minister of Education and Higher Education, Lolwah bint Rashid bin Mohammed Al Khater. The Ministry of Sports and Youth concluded its summer activities with significant public engagement, recording over 43,000 participants.
Qatar’s tourism sector also marked a milestone, as the Hayya platform processed over two million e-visa applications since the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, showcasing the nation’s growing appeal as a tourist destination. Meanwhile, the Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre hosted a specialized workshop on arbitration and mediation in intellectual property and technology disputes, underscoring Qatar’s commitment to advancing legal expertise in these fields.
