Doha: President of the International Handball Federation Dr. Hassan Mustafa praised the exceptional organizational standards of the 27th Asian Men’s Club League Handball Championship, currently taking place in Doha and scheduled to run until November 23, 2024.
According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Mustafa emphasized Qatar’s capability to host major global sporting events, attributing it to the country’s substantial resources and efforts by the organizing committee and the Qatar Handball Association (QHA) to present the tournament in its best form. He highlighted Qatar’s qualifications for hosting the Olympic Games, citing its successful history with events like the 2015 World Men’s Handball Championship and the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Dr. Mustafa reflected on his experience at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 final, describing it as the best final he had ever witnessed across all sports. He noted that Qatar’s achievement has set a high standard for future hosts, making it a source of pride for the Arab world.
He expressed his hope for the technical level of handball to advance further, aligning with the high organizational standards. Discussions with Bader Al Theyab, Vice-President of the International Handball Federation, focused on enhancing the tournament’s future.
The IHF President also remarked on the global growth of handball, citing a record fan turnout at the group stage during the recent Olympic Games in France. He suggested that hosting such tournaments in Arab countries, similar to Qatar’s successful 2015 World Championship, could replicate this success. Dr. Mustafa affirmed that the IHF is open to any country willing to host the championship and is committed to advancing handball worldwide.
