Qatar’s Enduring Support for Palestine: A Principled Commitment

Doha: Qatari newspaper editorials have reiterated Qatar's steadfast commitment to the Palestinian cause, emphasizing the nation's adherence to moral and humanitarian values, particularly the right of oppressed peoples to self-determination. The editorials highlighted Qatar's approval of Canada and Malta's announcements to recognize the State of Palestine, viewing it as a positive step in line with international legitimacy and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Arab's editorial titled "A Firm Qatari Principle in Supporting Palestine" affirmed Qatar's enduring commitment to the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including the establishment of an independent state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. The editorial noted that amidst escalating crises, Qatar remains a prominent Arab voice advocating for justice and keeping the Palestinian cause in the international spotlight.

The newspaper further emphasized the recent address by HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim during the Inter-Parliamentary Union Conference in Geneva. His speech, which garnered significant attention, called on the international community to break its silence over ongoing atrocities in Gaza, including genocide, blockade, and deliberate starvation. The editorial concluded by underscoring that Qatar's stance, led by its leadership and supported by its people, reflects a consistent and principled approach rooted in justice and solidarity with the Palestinian people.

In parallel, The Peninsula's editorial titled "Silencing Gaza's Witnesses" brought attention to the systematic targeting of journalists by Israeli occupation forces in the Gaza Strip. The paper cited the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, which reported that 232 reporters have been killed during Israel's 22-month assault on Gaza, marking it as the deadliest conflict for journalists in modern history. The editorial argued that the targeting of journalists is part of a broader strategy to suppress the truth, with Israeli forces injuring 400 journalists, detaining 40, and destroying media offices.

The Peninsula urged the international community to take concrete actions beyond mere statements, calling for the protection of journalists, independent investigations, and accountability for perpetrators. The editorial concluded with a powerful message, stating that the murder of journalists is not just a crime against individuals but a crime against truth itself, and history will judge both the perpetrators and those who remained silent.
