Doha: HE Minister of Interior and Chairman of the General Referendum Committee Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani announced that the constitutional amendments to the permanent constitution of the State of Qatar have been approved by 90.6% of the total valid votes. According to Qatar News Agency, the statement issued by His Excellency detailed that the referendum witnessed a participation rate of 84% among eligible citizens. Of these participants, 89% voted in favor of the amendments, while 9.2% opposed them, and 1.8% of the votes were deemed invalid. This referendum was part of an initiative aligned with HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's vision to enhance popular participation in public affairs, strengthen national unity, and promote consultation, justice, and the rule of law. The general referendum, conducted under Decree No. (87) of 2024, reflects a significant level of engagement from Qatari citizens. The outcome, with a high approval rate of 90.6% for the constitutional amendment s, marks a major milestone in Qatar's ongoing efforts to involve its citizens in shaping the nation's legislative framework.
