Doha: Qatari newspapers released on Friday delved into a variety of local and regional issues, notably emphasizing Qatar's unwavering support for the Gaza Strip, including the reopening of Hamad Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prosthetics. This initiative symbolizes a renewed hope for thousands of individuals injured in the ongoing conflict.
According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers also focused on the election of Mohammed Saad Al Rumaihi, CEO of Qatar Museums, as President of the ICOM Regional Alliance of Arab Countries for the 2025-2028 term. This election underscores Qatar's significant role in regional and international efforts for cultural heritage preservation.
The editorials further highlighted the achievements of the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), particularly the completion of the road improvement project in northern regions. This project is seen as a crucial indicator of Qatar's continued development efforts and its commitment to enhancing the quality of life for both citizens and residents.
On a regional scale, the newspapers stressed the necessity of unity among Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states. This unity is considered a fundamental pillar for maintaining security, stability, and driving development amidst rapidly changing international and regional challenges.
In its editorial titled "Qatari Support ¦ A Bridge of Hope Heals the Wounds of Palestinians," Al-Sharq emphasized Qatar's steadfast support for the Gaza Strip. The editorial highlighted that Qatar's contributions extend beyond financial aid and humanitarian projects, portraying Qatar's role as a moral commitment to the Palestinian people, who have endured years of blockade and aggression.
Al-Sharq pointed to Hamad Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prosthetics as a prime example of Qatar's support. Established in 2019 with funding from the Qatar Fund for Development, the hospital has continued its operations despite being targeted by Israeli bombardment. Its reopening has enabled it to resume critical services, including fitting over a hundred prosthetic limbs and attending to thousands of injured individuals, primarily children and women.
The editorial stressed that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza surpasses the capacity of any single institution, urging broader regional and international mobilization. It called for governments and humanitarian organizations to provide necessary materials for prosthetic limb production and to support rehabilitation and psychological care programs.
Al-Sharq concluded by describing the situation in Gaza as a test of global conscience, asserting that every humanitarian effort contributes to rebuilding life in the besieged enclave.
In a separate editorial titled "Qatar Consolidates Its Cultural Leadership," Al-Raya explored Qatar's cultural policies following Mohammed Saad Al Rumaihi's election as President of the ICOM Regional Alliance of Arab Countries. The newspaper interpreted this achievement as a testament to the regional and international confidence in Qatar's cultural leadership.
Al-Raya noted the commendation from HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Qatar Museums. She described Al Rumaihi's election as a natural result of his efforts in advancing the museum sector and fostering Arab cultural cooperation. The newspaper added that this recognition reflects Qatar's growing global influence in culture and the arts.
The editorial emphasized that Qatar's leadership of the Arab Museums Organization bolsters its position as a global hub for cultural dialogue, diversity, and innovation. It also provides Qatar a greater role in supporting Arab museums as educational and humanitarian institutions capable of building bridges between peoples and safeguarding heritage.
Al-Raya concluded that this achievement aligns with Qatar's broader cultural project, led by the museums sector, positioning culture as a key component of national development. This effort strengthens Qatari cultural identity and presents it to the world in a modern and sophisticated manner.
