Qatari-Turkish Strategic Committee Expands Cooperation with New Agreements.

ISTANBUL: The Qatari-Turkish Supreme Strategic Committee continues to advance its strategic cooperation and partnership, marked by the eighth and ninth sessions held in Istanbul and Doha, respectively. In October 2022, the committee's eighth session in Istanbul saw the signing of numerous agreements and memorandums of understanding (MOUs) aimed at enhancing collaboration in various sectors, including media and communications, halal quality infrastructure, and more. According to Qatar News Agency, the ninth session in December 2023 in Doha further solidified this partnership with new agreements covering areas such as political consultations, culture, labor, philanthropy, higher education, military and scientific cooperation, among others. These regular meetings have significantly strengthened bilateral relations, elevating them to a strategic level. The growing trade volume between Qatar and Turkiye highlights the deepening ties, facilitated by direct shipping routes and mutual investments. Qatar ranks among the largest foreign investors in Turkiye, with the Qatar Investment Authority overseeing major projects and around 200 Qatari companies active in the Turkish market. Conversely, over 771 Turkish companies operate in Qatar, with additional activities in the Qatar Free Zone. Qatari investments in Turkiye have expanded into ports and technology, alongside existing sectors like real estate, construction, and finance. The trade exchange reached QR 4.75 billion in 2023, with aspirations to boost this to USD 5 billion in the medium term. The Qatar Chamber of Commerce plays a vital role in fostering these economic ties, hosting Turkish delegations and participating in economic events. The committee's ongoing efforts underscore the robust relationship between Doha and Ankara, backed by strong leadership commitment to enhancing cooperation. Both nations have demonstrated resilience against regional challenges, maintaining coordinated efforts on critical issues and shared perspectives on regional and international con cerns, particularly in mediation and conflict resolution.
