Xiong'an: The Qatari team lost on Friday to their US and Chinese counterparts on the opening day of the U-23 FIBA 3x3 World Championship, which is being held in Xiong'an, China, over the course of three days with the participation of 20 teams.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatari team, made up of Mohammed Bashir, Mahmoud Darwish, Mubarak Jama, and Mustafa Ndaw, was defeated by the United States 15-21 in the first round of Group D after a competitive match between the two sides.
In their second match of Group D, the Qatari team faced China and suffered another loss, with a score of 18-21. The Qatari players demonstrated a high level of skill, particularly in the match against China, where they exchanged leads with the Chinese team until the final seconds, resulting in a win for the hosts and excitement for the local fans.
Looking ahead, the Qatari team is set to play their third and fourth matches in the group on Saturday, facing Latvia and Fiji, respectively. They aim to secure two consecutive victories to increase their chances of advancing to the quarter-finals.
The tournament features 20 teams divided into four groups. Group A comprises Germany, Lithuania, Poland, Croatia, and Iran. Group B includes France, New Zealand, the Czech Republic, Serbia, and Egypt. Group C consists of Mongolia, Italy, Algeria, Argentina, and Venezuela. Group D comprises Qatar, the United States, China, Latvia, and Fiji.
