Qatari Newspapers Urge International Action Amid Escalating Tensions in Gaza

Doha: Qatari daily newspapers highlighted in their editorials today the State of Qatar's unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, in light of the rapid developments taking place in the occupied territories. They emphasized Doha's continued commitment to regional and international diplomatic efforts aimed at halting the aggression on Gaza and seeking a humanitarian truce that would stop the bloodshed and protect civilians.

According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers warned against the plans of the far-right Israeli government, which seeks to continue fueling the escalating tensions in the region, through the Israeli Knesset's approval of a bill calling for the imposition of so-called Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank, followed by the allocation of USD 274.6 million to support further colonial projects in the occupied West Bank.

The Qatari newspapers called for the rescue of defenseless Palestinian civilians from death by fire or starvation, considering what is happening in the Gaza Strip to be horrific and terrifying, and killing for sport, while aid convoys are queueing outside the Strip, carrying everything necessary to feed and heal innocent people.

Under the title "Prominent Support for the Palestinian Cause," Al-Arab daily newspaper said that the State of Qatar strongly condemns the continued occupation and the policies of killing and forced displacement in Gaza and the West Bank, affirming its rejection of any measures aimed at undermining the two-state solution.

Al-Arab noted the State of Qatar's consistent call on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities to stop the Israeli violations, ensure respect for international law, and compel Israel to guarantee the safe, sustainable, and unhindered entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip; to be distributed by international humanitarian organizations.

The newspaper highlighted that Doha stresses its rejection of the use of food and the starvation of civilians as a weapon of war, pointing that yesterday, along with nine Arab and Islamic countries, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Qatar condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli Knesset's approval of a declaration calling for the imposition of so-called "Israeli sovereignty" over the occupied West Bank.

These countries and organizations considered the decision a flagrant violation of international law and a blatant violation of Security Council resolutions, which affirm the invalidity of any measures aimed at legitimizing the occupation, including settlement activities in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967.

The newspaper concluded by saying: "This joint statement reflects a broad Arab and Islamic consensus against the Israeli escalation and emphasizes the need to find a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue that guarantees the rights of the Palestinian people and maintains regional stability."

Al-Sharq newspaper, in its editorial titled "The West Bank and the Colonial Policies of the Occupation," observed that the extremist right-wing Israeli government, through its schemes, continues to add fuel to the fire every day and to fuel the escalating tension in the region, exacerbated by the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and the resulting humanitarian catastrophe.

Al-Sharq added, "Perhaps the latest of these expansionist colonial schemes and policies is the Israeli Knesset's approval of the declaration calling for the imposition of so-called 'Israeli sovereignty' over the occupied West Bank, and the subsequent implementation of this. By allocating USD 274.6 million to support further colonial projects in the occupied West Bank."

Al-Sharq explained that in light of the ongoing aggression and war in various forms in the Gaza Strip, including the use of food and the starvation of civilians as a weapon of war, this announcement, approved by the Israeli Knesset, to annex the West Bank represents a new declaration of war against the Palestinian people, a continuation of the crimes of genocide and displacement, and an effort to liquidate the Palestinian cause and undermine the international consensus on the principle of the two-state solution.

The newspaper emphasized that this announcement, which constitutes a violation of international law and a violation of Security Council resolutions, cannot change the legal status of the occupied Palestinian territory. All international resolutions affirm the nullity of all measures aimed at legitimizing the occupation, including settlement activities in the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967.

Al-Sharq concluded by calling on the international community, led by the Security Council, and all concerned parties, to assume their legal and moral responsibilities and take urgent action to halt illegal Israeli policies aimed at imposing a fait accompli by force and undermining the Palestinian cause. Opportunities for achieving a just and lasting peace, and eliminating the prospects for a two-state solution based on international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
